The reason behind why some work started but left unfinished are varied, but often can be generalized into two categories; 1) you ran out of time (perhaps even because you are dead/incapacitated) or 2) you are stuck in an impasse. While I am still alive (at the time of writing nonsense like these lol) it did ran out of time—the student that I was collaborating with got bored with his impasse and moved on to other creative endeavors, I was having major cringe attacks. I couldn’t bear myself telling him the truth, its literally parents putting your infantile artwork (as a two-year-old) onto the fridge and moreover its not writing MY PIECE so he gets to drive the car and learn why somethings work and others don’t. He was thoroughly respectful with my alternate suggestions to deal with the issues of the song but was firm in his…green aesthetic choice and I was like…uh…I just can’t even
Wouldn’t say I was as steadfast with my judgement 9 years after, but I think I have build up enough candor and shrewdness to support him properly. With a straight face while at that, too…
